About Cesar

The Centre of Substance use and Addiction Research (CESAR) is a collective of researchers and clinicians investigating the risk and resilience factors associated with substance use and addiction.

Substance use and addiction represent significant societal challenges globally. Key questions revolve around understanding why and how individuals become addicted and how we can effectively treat or (preferably) prevent addictionTherefore, CESAR focuses on identifying the risk and resilience factors associated with (problematic) substance use and addiction.

We investigate the intricate interplay between brain structure and function, behaviour, and the environment, spanning from molecular mechanisms to societal factorsSubstance use and addiction detrimentally impact individuals’ social, physical and psychological well-being. The knowledge gained from our research can eventually  contribute to effective prevention and treatment strategies for addiction.
